<ins datetime="2010-02-24T18:23:47+00:00">Monarch Ultimate Frisbee</ins> is a group of Juniors and Seniors who have grown through the ri-disc-ulous system. Our old name, ri-disc-ulous, was not fitting for the current team. Losing games due to lack of experience was our big problem, but not this year.

Our new frisbee

<ins datetime="2010-02-24T18:23:47+00:00">Monarch Ultimate came off a strong fall season winning back-to-back tournaments</ins>. We have overhauled the offense completely and are learning how to play good defense. The defense on our team is the area that could improve the most.

Our head coach Jolian Dahl, Captain of Johnny Bravo “Professional” Ultimate frisbee team in Denver, has taught us so much in the one year we have known him! I credit him with much of our teams success.

Our coach, teacher, mentor, all-star...... Jolian Dahl

We have had some additions since my freshman year like Matt Newell and Veikko Tikander who really have helped the team. But we have also had some members not able to play again which is too bad.

British Bomber and Veikko climb the ladder for the disc

Our new uniforms will be ordered whenever people get their money in (including me) so if you are reading this and you haven’t yet paid, then DO IT.

Handlers are looking pretty solid this year, I think we could have some fun dominating sets.

So come out and watch some of our home games!

This weekend was the best skiing of the season yet. Everywhere in Colorado was getting snow from the four corners to my hometown of Superior.

For my first powder day, I went to Vail on friday. The report claimed 5 inches, but in <ins datetime="2010-02-22T23:26:36+00:00">Blue Sky there was knee deep throughout</ins>. With minimal traffic on the way up, this was a great bluebird powder morning.

Friday night was spent in Carbondale before another day of tearing the slopes apart at Snowmass.

As we appraoched the summit of the first lift I was greeted by the report of 10 INCHES!!! The day couldn’t have gotten any better with cold flurries keeping the slopes fresh and crowd-less. <ins datetime="2010-02-22T23:26:36+00:00">Some of the deepest powder that my Rapid Transit fatty telemark skis have graced.</ins>

Worth every penny

For lunch my friends and I stopped at Johnny’s Little Dill. If you ever ski Snowmass and fail to stop at the Dill, you haven’t experienced Snowmass.

This picture shows just how much snow they got overnight

These back-to-back powder excursions took it out of me. I could barely stay awake on Saturday night as I watched Apollo take bronze, his historic 7th medal. Screw NBC and their crappy coverage of the games, DVR and Tivo are the only way I like to watch. (But that will be a future post about how I love DVR….)

The high-country is expecting more snow so I hope I can go up next weekend, maybe even friday.

Preparing to go on my first road ride of the season on my bike, I began to inflate my tires to proper air pressure using my hand pump.

The stem on one of my tires looked a little loose, but was in a hurry so I paid little attention. Next thing I knew and the piece broke off, leaving nothing to keep the pressure in the tube.

This blow out ruined my ride-not-to-be. I guess it just isn’t quite the right season for biking yet. Its still time to get out and shred the slopes!

But I will be out hittin the pedals soon enough. I can’t wait to be out biking again, in preparation for another sprint triathalon I hope.
