Eternal snow

Andrew Commander: First off, what is your company and what do you do?
Michael Dunn: Our company is Eternalsnow.com, and we sell all of the snowboarding gear you would ever need for the active snowboarder lifestyle all year long. We specialize in smaller brands that offer cutting edge products and fashion. In summer, we sell skateboards and associated products through Eternalsk8.com.

AC: How did you first get started in this industry?
MD: Dropped out of school in SoCal to move to Northern California and work in a Snowboard shop.

AC: How do you try to compete in the online marketplace?
MD: By offering harder to find items by smaller brands and trying to stay ahead of the game on fashion trends and snowboard technology breakthroughs.

AC: What’s your turnover rate on products, and how frequently do you update your online catalogs with new items?
MD: Every 6-8 months. We update constantly with new products, adding to the product range as seasons change, but change the website completely twice a year in the early Spring and early Fall.

AC: What is the best selling product for your company?
MD: We have several: Airblaster outerwear, Thirty-Two snowboard boots, Technine snowboards, and in general, snowboard bindings and snowboard outerwear. In summer it would be DVS skate shoes and Vans skate shoes.

AC: Any fresh ideas about where your company is headed?
MD: Maybe not so much fresh ideas, but this is what we would like to offer: Trying to be more of a community for snowboarders by offering more information, video product explanations and demos, employee and customer reviews.

AC: Do you have any gloves that can actually keep my hands warm?!
MD: Yes, plenty! I would recommend the Burton Gore-Tex Gloves or Mitts.

AC: How would you like people to get the word out?
MD: We would love most of our growth to be through Social Media, as that would be a sign that we have happy customers; they wouldn’t tell their friends about a store they are not pleased to be associated with. We believe a customer review – either good or bad – is better than any paid advertising.

AC: Who have been the three most influential people in your life thus far?
MD: My Father, Steve Roberts, Ian McKaye

AC: What do you do outside of the office?
MD: Snowboard (of course), mountain bike, play a little bit and listen to a lot of music, watch movies, enjoy the gloriousness of Lake Tahoe.

AC: What’s your favorite website?
MD: Pitchfork.com

Eternal snow

Big thanks to Eternal Snow for the stickers!!!

Monarch Ultimate Frisbee is a group of Juniors and Seniors who have grown through the ri-disc-ulous system. Our old name, ri-disc-ulous, was not fitting for the current team. Losing games due to lack of experience was our big problem, but not this year.

Our new frisbee

Monarch Ultimate came off a strong fall season winning back-to-back tournaments. We have overhauled the offense completely and are learning how to play good defense. The defense on our team is the area that could improve the most.

Our head coach Jolian Dahl, Captain of Johnny Bravo “Professional” Ultimate frisbee team in Denver, has taught us so much in the one year we have known him! I credit him with much of our teams success.

We have had some additions since my freshman year like Matt Newell and Veikko Tikander who really have helped the team. But we have also had some members not able to play again which is too bad.

Our new uniforms will be ordered whenever people get their money in (including me) so if you are reading this and you haven’t yet paid, then DO IT.

Handlers are looking pretty solid this year, I think we could have some fun dominating sets.

So come out and watch some of our home games!

This weekend was the best skiing of the season yet. Everywhere in Colorado was getting snow from the four corners to my hometown of Superior.

For my first powder day, I went to Vail on friday. The report claimed 5 inches, but in Blue Sky there was knee deep throughout. With minimal traffic on the way up, this was a great bluebird powder morning.

Friday night was spent in Carbondale before another day of tearing the slopes apart at Snowmass.

As we appraoched the summit of the first lift I was greeted by the report of 10 INCHES!!! The day couldn’t have gotten any better with cold flurries keeping the slopes fresh and crowd-less. Some of the deepest powder that my Rapid Transit fatty telemark skis have graced.

Worth every penny

For lunch my friends and I stopped at Johnny’s Little Dill. If you ever ski Snowmass and fail to stop at the Dill, you haven’t experienced Snowmass.

These back-to-back powder excursions took it out of me. I could barely stay awake on Saturday night as I watched Apollo take bronze, his historic 7th medal. Screw NBC and their crappy coverage of the games, DVR and Tivo are the only way I like to watch. (But that will be a future post about how I love DVR….)

The high-country is expecting more snow so I hope I can go up next weekend, maybe even friday.
